Hello mamas,
My little baby boy is just over four months old.
He’s been showing signs of teething for the last couple weeks.
How is that even possible?!
He’s drooling like crazy, and usually has a finger or hand or both hands in his mouth.
He doesn’t have any teeth coming through so I’m assuming it’s just really really early “pre teething”, haha is that a word?
We got him a few different kinds of teething toys, and he definitely likes some better than others. He seems to have a preference for the crunchy sound soft ones and for sucking on blankets. He is not into the silicone teethers as of yet.
But that could also has something to do with his teeny tiny mouth not really being able to comfortably, fully chew on them.
You can see in this photo, the different types of toys he has :
I will admit though, his favorite teething toy, is my finger. He loves to chew and chomp down on my knuckle, preferably my index finger.
I tried making the breastmilk popsicles….. yeah
It was a lot of effort to make these so I don’t know if I would do it again. It’s not as easy as you see on Pinterest, at least not for me haha!
He liked it but didn’t looooove it so we will just put that to the side for now.
His doctor said we could start introducing solids to him from this point on whenever we felt we wanted to begin.
A few days later, I was telling my husband that I didn’t want to start just yet because:
A) I’m not ready for my baby to grow up yet ! ( he’s our second and we don’t plan on having any more so him growing is super bittersweet)
B) I know the work it takes to have a baby on solids. I home cooked everything for my daughter. From the rice cereal to every purée combination you can imagine. After that, as she got older, I made everything from scratch: soups, stews, lentil balls, muffins out the cazoo.
It was a lot of work but totally worth it as I could control the ingredients, sugar, salt, flavors etc. At the time, she had reflux, a sensitivity to dairy, aaaannd we were gluten free so it was impossible to find anything premade that fit our dietary needs.
Today, we are still gluten and dairy free for the most part but will eat it here and there. On top of that, my daughter refuses to eat meat.
I understand and respect her decision as my husband and I were both vegetarians before having children.
We started eating meat when I got pregnant with #1 and never went back to vegetarianism.
Soooooo if you need advice or inspiration for cooking and eating dairy free, gluten free, and animal meat free, I’m your gal! (And did I mention picky eaters, yeah that’s a continuing education degree right there)
Where was I? Oh yes, telling my husband why I’m not ready or solids yet. So, as we are discussing this, I’m holding baby boy. He already has a mind of his own apparently, because in that moment he grabs the banana I had in my hand, and put it in his mouth. I pulled it away from him and he started crying. I let him suck on it again and he was in heaven.
So I guess we are ready ??
Time to dust off my silicone molds, pull out the blender, and get crackin’!
Welllll probably not…. I have two littles now sooooo we will just start off slow. Let him suck on the banana and when I have other fruits let him lick those too.
I’ll get my solid foods starter printable together and we will begin by letting him play with the food in his high chair in the next 2-3 weeks.
Need a printable ?
Leave a comment and I can send you mine.
Xo,
Elizabeth
I felt that way about introducing solids with my last baby, too. It took me ages to let her try food! I think she was like six and a half months? Which is a lot later than I started with my other kids. We mamas know when to embrace the “lasts,” don’t we? 🙂
I was a vegetarian for three years but it’s been a long time ago now and I recently decided I’d like to ease back into it. It’s challenging to figure out how to do it with a big family because most of them don’t want to join me. 😛
Also, when you commented on my blog, the link to yours was different than what your actual blog link is. You can change that if you go to your account settings (click on your profile pic and options come up) and edit your “web address.” 🙂

Thanks Valerie 🙂 yes, that’s challenging if not all members are on board. I’ve found cooking hearty vegetarian meals are a good transition such as chili, tofu tacos (yes they are yummy!)
